Seniors Choices for Living and Care Options

Care Options

A Life of Leisure or Necessity? Many seniors are healthy during their final years. However, even those functioning independently may require assistance with basic day-to-day necessities. You must first determine if your senior requires IN Home or Out of the Home care.

IN-Home Care is part-time basic care for your senior. Professionals will help with cooking, cleaning, running errands, paying bills, transportation and administering basic medication. There are two main types of In-Home Care: basic and specialized.

Basic Care can be part-time or full-time (up to 24 hours) basic care, which can include live-in teams or shifts.

Specialized Care includes certified nurses who visit your senior to administer advanced medications, perform general health monitoring, and more. If you require such care, please contact:

OUT of the Home Care options vary from Independant Living for healthy seniors to Assisted Living for those seniors who require a little help. There are many Independant Living Facilities in the Santa Cruz area, including:

Assisted Living Facilities are typicallyfor those seniors that require some consistent health care. Skilled Care Facilities are typically a cross between a hospital and a home. They have certified doctors and nurses on-call and can assist seniors with many common medical needs. Assisted Living facilities in the Santa Cruz-Monterey area include:

Alzheimer's/Dementia Facilities offer a staff of nurses experienced in caring for elders with Alzheimer's and Dementia.  Due to the degenerative nature of these brain conditions, elders' ability to leave the facility is restricted through various safe security measures. There are a limited selection of these type of facilities and the monthly expense are significantly higher. In the Santa Cruz area, facilities include-

  • Flor's Guest Home

When you are ready to select a place for your senior, most facilities will require an in-home or facility placement assessment.  For assistance with your advanced life changes, call Gregg Camp (SRES) at (831) 464-4423 or email GCampRltr@aol.com.
